What to do in Milan on the weekend of Sant’Ambrogio

The Sant&apos weekend;Ambrogio in Milan  (which unfortunately this year is literally a weekend instead of a bridge) is always full of events and things to do because it marks the official start of the Christmas season.

If a few weeks ago the city has begun to light up with lights and decorations, this is the moment when you give the official way to the markets and the lighting of the various trees scattered all over the city.

From traditional Oh bej oh bej to the little houses in Piazza Duomo, from the Swarovski tree to the Tiffany tree, festivities fans can dive headlong into the atmosphere of the festivities between decorations and gifts.

Everybody else is going to have things to do anyway, between music, cinema and entertainment .

The First (of the Scale) Diffused

On the occasion of the Before the Ladder that this year is represented by the Tosca by Giacomo Puccini The project of the Municipality of Milan and Edison is back again this year, with the aim of bringing art and art-related themes to the general public, opening the opera season of the theatre.

The evening of December 7th The premiere will be broadcast live in some of Milan’s most iconic locations. like the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II , the Teatro dal Verme, the Casa degli Artisti, the Conservatorio di Milano and the Casa dell’Accoglienza Enzo Jannacci.

But that’s not all. Until 12 December there will be over 50 free events scheduled.

The Oh Bej Oh Bej Fair

Till December 8th around the Sforza Castle back the traditional market typical of the days of Sant’Ambrogio and that marks the start of Christmas shopping.

In the stretch between Viale Gadio and Piazza Castello will be 379 exhibitors selected according to new criteria to make the fair as heterogeneous as possible, with well 45 product categories present.

Lighting of Christmas trees

Friday 6th is the day set for the official start of the Christmas celebrations with l’ lighting up of l’ Christmas tree in Piazza Duomo , sponsored by Esselunga.

L ‘event will start at 4 p.m. in the presence of Mayor Giuseppe Sala but every evening will be an event that will be repeated every day until the eve at 6.15 p.m. in the presence of ordinary people in the special capacity of mayors for one day.

The new mast is entirely made of steel, 37 meters high and covered with over 80,000 bright LEDs that will give a different light show to the city every time it is turned on.

Not far away, in Vittorio Emanuele Gallery II you can admire, for the sixth consecutive year, the Digital Christmas Tree Swarovski and the Light Vault.

At the base of the tree, then, it will be possible to have fun with the Crystal style bar devices, to “wear” Swarovski jewelry in a virtual way, while in the Fun Wall stations you can shoot selfie and share them with your contacts or on social media.

Arriving in Piazza della Scala then you can admire l’lighting engineering work which reproduces the ceiling of the famous theatre thanks to the presence of small crystal rhinestone dots and the installation of about 200 metres of pipes. LED low wattage that will allow an energy saving of 65%.

By boat on the illuminated Navigli

7 and l’8 December l’Associazione culturarle Milano in Tour proposes a boat trip, scheduled at 15.45 to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Christmas admiring the Navigli and the lights that are reflected on the waterways.

The tour will begin with the discovery of the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio and then continue along the Navigli visiting also evocative places such as an ancient railing house and the Washerwomen’s Alley .

Finally, on board a covered boat (exclusively chartered), you will sail on Naviglio Grande to discover the secrets of this neighborhood and the trades of the tradition.

Cinema Bianchini Splendido

From 7 December Cinema Bianchini proposes a new, unusual location for its projections: the historic Swimming pool Cozzi di viale Tunisia .

Here everything will be set up ad hoc to relive the 1930s with themed details such as the sets, background music and staff uniforms.

The programming includes great classics like  Roman Holiday  o  Breakfast at Tiffany’s ,   hits   like  Titanic e Dunkirk,  but also a selection of children’s film .

The audience will be able to choose whether to buy the ticket for the viewing of the film only or for the screening accompanied by dinner .

Wunder Mrkt at the Mysterious Baths and other markets

Also back this’year the marketplace organized in one of the most evocative places in Milan, especially during the festivities.

On 7 and 8 December at the Mysterious Baths there will be more than 90 exhibitors that will offer craftsmanship, vintage, modernism and collecting.

All surrounded by the ice rink and the food stands.

It won’t be l’only market , however, because (in addition to the aforementioned Oh Bej Oh Bej Fair) will also come the small wooden houses near the Duomo which will remain there until January 6. On sale typical and artisan products whose proceeds will go in part to finance the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo for the restoration of the cathedral.

Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th from 10.30 am to 9 pm back to Base Flug Market , with a Christmas edition that sees the presence of over 200 makers, creatives, collectors, illustrators, tailors, craftsmen of beauty  from different parts of Italy.
